05/25/2011 Dennis Callahan, Raymond Weitekamp, Emily Kosten, and Koray Aydin, early career scientists in the Light-Material Interactions in Energy Conversion EFRC led by the California Institute of Technology, were honored for striking photography and visual impact in their entry, “Light Matters” in Life at the Frontiers of Energy Research Video Contest. Our group has received
funding from AFOSR to study combinatorial three-dimensional metamaterials in collaboraton with Chad Mirkin and Vinayak Dravid groups at Northwestern.

invited seminar at the Center for Nanoscale Materials (CNM) at Argonne National Lab.

Dr. Aydin presented an

Dr. Serkan Butun joins MNDL as a postdoctoral researcher from Bilkent University, Turkey.

Our work on broadband absorbers was selected as one of the most important materials research in 2011 by the Technology Review and appeared in their highly selective list,
“The Year in Materials”.


Koray presented an invited talk on nanophotonics in the GE Global Research Photonics Symposium which took place at the GE Global Research Center in Niskuyana, NY. Koray met with the lab directors and GE researchers and discussed about possible collaboration opportunities.

Shiyi is a
Murphy Felliow and a first year EECS PhD Student and Fei is an MS student.

Koray served as the organizing committee member in MIOMD-XI conference chaired by Prof. Manijeh Razeghi. The conference took place at Northwestern University and hosted more than 150 attendees from 23 different countries. Honorary chairs of the conference were Prof. Klaus von Klitzing and Prof. Leo Esaki.
