The text is C.-T. Chen, Linear System Theory and Design, fourth edition, Oxford, 2013, or fourth international edition, Oxford, 2013. I will generally follow this text, covering Chapters 1-6, with some omissions, and part of Chapter 7 or 8. The following is what we will do:
Sections 2.1 through 2.5, 2.7 through 2.9
Sections 3.1 through 3.6, 3.8, 3.9, 3.11
Sections 4.1, 4.2, 4.4, 4.5
Sections 5.1 through 5.4
Ch. 6 is done with considerable reordering of the sections: 6.1, 6.6
(done in a different way), 6.4, 6.2, 6.3, 6.5,6.7.
Ch. 7 or 8: as much as there is time for.
The mid-quarter exam (100 points) will be on Wednesday Oct. 28 in the regular class period.
The final exam (200 points) will be on Wednesday, Dec. 9, 3 PM to 5 PM, in our regular room.
Your final grade will be governed by the sum of your two exam grades.
Exams are open book, open notes, the problems being inspired largely by homework problems. You may use Matlab, but you should heed a warning I will give in class.
It sometimes happens that a student wants to take the final exam before the officially posted December date. Such requests will be rejected.
cThe so-called international edition of the text differs from the US edition only in the homework problems. However, all problems in the US edition are in the international edition, a fact I will take into account. If you can't buy a copy of the international edition locally, you can quickly get it from Amazon UK.
