Job opening: Postdoctoral Fellow, Northwestern University and the Shirley Ryan AbilityLab

The assistive & rehabilitation robotics lab (argallab) invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position. Research topics for this position broadly span the areas of human-robot shared control, machine learning and adaptation, and human rehabilitation. Our active research projects include these areas among others, and we work with a range of hardware platforms, including robotic wheelchairs and arms, with a particular focus on interfaces for control. For more information, please visit the Research description on our website.

This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic individual to contribute to and gain experience with building the technical and theoretical foundations of a growing academic research group, that moreover is situated in a unique applied research environment.

The Shirley Ryan AbilityLab is the premier rehabilitation hospital in the United States (ranked #1 for 31 consecutive years by World & News Report), with the largest physical rehabilitation research center in the world. The hospital is located on the shores of Lake Michigan in downtown Chicago. In-patient rehabilitation and research co-exist within a shared, open-plan environment. Our unparalled access to clinical expertise and priorities is unique, and exceptionally fortunate, for academic researchers in robotics autonomy.

The lab also is affiliated with Northwestern University (the departments of Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation). The Postdoctoral Fellow will be affiliated with Northwestern University as well.

Minimum Experience:
* PhD degree in Robotics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent.
* Excellent oral and written communication skills.
* Proficiency in the development of robot control paradigms and higher-level behaviors, where development includes both the writing of code (C++, python, ROS) and its implementation on real hardware.
* Proficiency in debugging software and hardware systems.
* Creativity and independence in the identification of research problems and approaches to solving them.
* General knowledge of or interest in human rehabilitation.

Preferred Experience:
* Experience with human subject studies and/or working with persons with motor impairments.
* Expertise in machine learning and ROS.

Applications:
Electronic only. Please email your CV and letter of intent (2-page limit)
to the lab director, Prof. Brenna Argall, at brenna [dot] argall [at] northwestern [dot] edu. Promising applicants will be asked to follow up with letters of reference.
